Kawai K700 Grand Piano Presence in Upright Form
The K700 represents Kawai’s answer to a question many pianists face: how can I have the quality, tone, and elegance of a grand piano when space is limited? This magnificent instrument embodies Kawai’s traditional grand-style exterior design, bringing the visual presence and aesthetic refinement of a grand piano into homes, studios, and venues where a grand piano simply isn’t practical.
The grand-style music rack – a distinctive design element borrowed directly from Kawai’s grand piano range – immediately distinguishes the K700 from conventional upright pianos. This elegant feature not only enhances the instrument’s visual appeal but also provides generous space for scores and sheet music, making it as practical as it is beautiful.
But the Kawai K700 is far more than beautiful cabinetry. This is an instrument that delivers on the promise implied by its elegant appearance – offering quality tone and expression that satisfies even the most demanding musicians. The K700 bridges the gap between aspiration and practicality, proving that space constraints need not mean compromise on musical quality.
The Millennium III Action: Professional Performance
At the heart of the K-700 lies Kawai’s revolutionary Millennium III action – the same groundbreaking technology found in Kawai’s finest professional upright pianos. Featuring components made from ABS-Carbon (an advanced composite created by infusing carbon fibre into Kawai’s renowned ABS Styran), this action is incredibly sturdy and rigid, allowing the creation of parts that are lighter without sacrificing strength.
A stronger, faster action that offers more power, better control, and greater stability than conventional all-wood actions – ensuring the K700 delivers the responsive, nuanced touch that serious repertoire demands.
For pianists accustomed to grand piano touch or aspiring to that level of performance, the Millennium III action provides exceptional control across the entire dynamic range. From delicate pianissimos to powerful fortissimos, from rapid repeated notes to singing legato lines, the K700’s action responds with the precision and consistency you expect from a professional instrument.
Extended Keys with NEOTEX Surfaces
The Kawai K700 features extended key length throughout the keyboard, combined with Kawai’s exclusive NEOTEX key surface material on both sharps and naturals. This sophisticated pairing delivers grand piano-quality playing experience in every detail.
Extended keys provide more even response from front to back of the playing surface, giving you greater control and more power with less effort – particularly valuable when tackling technically demanding repertoire or during extended practice sessions.
NEOTEX, made with cellulose fibre, offers the smooth, understated texture of natural ivory and ebony, with a semi-porous, silica-filled surface that absorbs the hand’s natural oils and perspiration to prevent slipping. This premium surface material resists cracking and fading over years of use, maintaining the refined tactile experience that discerning pianists appreciate.
Precision Engineering for Lasting Excellence
Three die-cast aluminium action brackets, formed from custom moulds to ensure exact uniformity, provide exceptional strength and stability. These brackets maintain accurate touch and consistent regulation over years of use, ensuring the K700’s professional performance remains constant.
The action features mahogany hammer cores – lightweight and extremely responsive, found only on the finest pianos. Each hammer is T-stapled to preserve its shape and fitted with an added interior layer of underfelt to support exceptional tone creation, ensuring perfect consistency across all 88 keys.
Engineered for Superior Tone
The Tapered Soundboard: Grand Piano Voice
The soundboard is the heart of any piano, transforming string vibrations into rich, resounding tone. Kawai uses only straight-grained, quarter-sawn solid spruce for K700 soundboards – each strategically tapered to maximise tone-producing capability. Only soundboards meeting or exceeding Kawai’s demanding quality standards are selected for use in their professional upright pianos.
The K700’s soundboard is carefully tapered from bass to treble range, optimising resonance and projection across the entire sound spectrum. This sophisticated acoustic design ensures the warm, refined tone that Kawai is celebrated for – delivering singing clarity in the treble, warmth and presence in the midrange, and depth and authority in the bass registers.
The result is an instrument that offers quality tone and expression worthy of its grand piano-inspired design. Whether you’re performing intimate solo repertoire or accompanying voice or instruments, the K700 delivers the tonal beauty and projection that makes music come alive.
Built for Professional Demands
Uncompromising Construction
The K700’s construction reflects Kawai’s commitment to professional-grade quality throughout their K Series range. The steel-reinforced keyslip prevents warping or bending with changes in humidity, ensuring keys move freely with virtually no possibility of rubbing or sticking – essential reliability for consistent performance in the British climate.
The piano’s keybed is constructed from sturdy laminated hardwoods and reinforced by rear braces on the cast iron frame. This robust foundation supports the action assembly and maintains precise regulation over years of use, whilst preventing energy loss through enhanced rigidity.
Every aspect of the K700’s construction ensures this instrument will maintain its exceptional performance characteristics and elegant appearance throughout decades of service.
Grand Piano Elegance for Every Setting
The K700’s traditional grand-style exterior design makes it a distinguished addition to any environment. Its elegant proportions, refined aesthetic, and distinctive grand-style music rack complement sophisticated interiors, whilst its upright configuration ensures it fits comfortably in spaces where a grand piano would be impractical.
This makes the K700 ideal for:
- Homes where elegant aesthetics and musical quality are equally valued
- Studios requiring professional performance with prestigious presence
- Performance venues needing an upright piano that commands visual and musical respect
- Educational institutions where inspiring design supports musical aspiration
- Professional environments where first impressions matter
The K-700 proves that choosing an upright piano need not mean sacrificing the visual grandeur or musical quality associated with grand pianos.
